Metropolitan Developer Limited has recently been awarded the contract by Warwickshire based Galliford Try for the construction of a concrete frame for a nine-storey civic centre in Corby, Northamptonshire on behalf of Corby Borough Council.
Work is due to begin on site at the beginning of April 2008. With a programme of 52 weeks this will see completion of the concrete frame in March 2009.
The Corby Cube, as the final development will be known, has been designed by HawkinsBrown architects of London. Once complete facilities will include a 445-seat theatre, additional arts and studio space, a library, council offices and one-stop shop alongside a council chamber.
In fact the building has already received International Acclaim when it was runner up in the 2007 LEAF Awards for the Best Public Building Design Award.
Michael Cannon of Metropolitan says: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by Galliford Try in Corby. The town of Corby has been under significant regeneration from a residential, commercial and economic point of view and this new Civic Centre will be part of the final transformation of the town.”
